Sinuses are empty, air-filled cavities inside the bones of the face. They surround another empty cavity in the face: the nasal cavity. The sinuses are connected to the nasal cavity through pinpoint openings. For a sinus to remain healthy, the opening between the sinus cavity and the nasal cavity must be open. This allows air to flow into the sinus and mucus produced within the lining of the sinus to drain out. If swelling, inflammation, or polyps block the small opening of the sinus, sinusitis develops.
The most common symptoms of sinusitis include nasal congestion, trouble breathing through the nose, sinus pain, discolored mucus, and decreased sense of smell. Luckily, there are effective treatments delivering a chronic sinusitis cure; it’s just a matter of finding the best one.
